| Pitches |
(i) In this session, you will introduce your visualization sketch to the rest of the group. You will have 3 slides and 2 minutes for your pitch. Slide 1 should only show a project title and an image (e.g., from unsplash.com.) that helps you introduce and motivate your research question. Slide 2 should only show your hand-drawn visualization sketch and a slide title. No bullet points allowed. Slide 3 should answer the following 3 questions: Who - is your audience? What - do you want to communicate? How - do you want to bring your message across? Be aware that 2 minutes pass by quickly. Please practice and ideally time your presentation beforehand. (ii) After each presentation there will be 3 minutes for peer feedback, so please be prepared to comment on fellow participants' presentations. I will provide my feedback individually after the session. (iii) To ensure a swift transition between presentations submit your pitch presentation slides until September 25th, 2024, 11:59pm via this Upload link - Naming convention: 'Pitch_LASTNAME.ppt'. |
| Project work |
In the project work session you will have time to ask questions to me and your peers, discuss ideas and prepare your analysis / presentation. |
| Presentation |
(i) In this session, you will communicate the results of your research question using your final visualization. As for the pitch, you will have 3 slides - an image-based intro slide and a slide with your initial sketch and a slide for your final visualization - you will have 3 minutes for your presentation (Minimum presentation time is 2 minutes!). Again, no bullet points or text besides titles. Practice and time your presentation beforehand. This is your moment to shine - tell a good story using your compelling data visualization! (ii) To ensure a swift transition between presentations, please submit your final presentation slides until December 4th, 2024, 11:59pm via this Upload link - Naming convention: 'Presentation_LASTNAME.pptx'. Given you want to use a reveal.js presentation please add: format: html: self-contained: true to be able to produce a html file that contains all the necessary information. |
| Final report | The final assignment of this course is to compile and submit a two-pages report (max. 1000 words). The report should include a (i) catchy title and abstract (max 50 words), (ii) text presenting the research question, the first sketch, the methodology and data, the results and conclusions, and, of course, (iii) the final data visualization. The report should be created using R quarto and submitted until January 10th, 2025, 11:59pm as a .zip file that includes: your complete R-project with a rendered, fully reproducible pdf or html file.
